FAQ
- What is Ford Collision Assistance, and how can it help me after an accident?
Ford Collision Assistance is a service designed to help Ford owners navigate the often-stressful process after a collision. It provides resources and support, including guidance on finding Ford Certified Collision Network shops that prioritize the use of Original Ford Parts in repairs — all to ensure that your vehicle is repaired to Ford high standards. It can also help you with needs like towing, understanding insurance coverage and claims, and more.
- How can I access Ford Collision Assistance?
You can access Ford Collision Assistance through the Ford app, the Ford website, or by calling 1-800-327-8281. All are there for you and ready to help you find a Ford Certified Collision network repair center.
- What is the Ford Certified Collision Network (FCCN) and why use it?
Ford has created a highly skilled network of certified collision centers that deliver Ford quality repairs — it’s called the Ford Certified Collision Network. You can trust that any repair center in this network can repair your Ford to its original factory condition — prioritizing genuine parts installed by trained techs. These shops follow Ford manufacturer auto body repair procedures and will re-calibrate all integrated safety systems to perform as designed to restore your vehicle to pre-accident condition. To find a Ford Certified Collision Network center near you, use our shop locator or call us at 1-800-327-8281 for assistance.
- Should I take my vehicle to a Ford Dealer for collision repair?
Not all Ford dealers perform collision repairs. If you contact Ford Collision Assistance at 1-800-327-8281, they can direct you to the nearest location — Ford dealer or FCCN repair center — that will provide the best option for repairing your Ford vehicle.
- How long will my collision repair take?
The time required for collision repair varies depending on the extent of the damage. Your Ford Certified Collision Network shop can provide you with an estimated repair time after assessing the damage to your vehicle. To find a Ford Certified Collision Network center near you, use our shop locator or call us at 1-800-327-8281 for assistance.
- What are genuine Ford Parts?
More commonly referred to as Original Ford Parts, genuine Ford Parts are Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. This important distinction means they are the same parts that are used in the original assembly of your Ford vehicle and specifically designed and engineered for that vehicle. Any other part is aftermarket regardless of title and Ford cannot ensure any other parts will fit and perform as original Ford parts do.
- Why is it important to use Original Ford Parts after a collision?
Using Original Ford Parts when there’s a need for replacement parts after an accident is the best way to guarantee your Ford vehicle will perform as it should after repair. This will also help ensure that you are meeting the requirements of your vehicle warranty. And, if you’re leasing a vehicle through Ford Motor Credit, you are required to use Original Ford Parts for repairs. With all that in mind, know that Ford Certified Collision Network repair centers prioritize the use of Original Ford Parts. Also keep in mind that a future failure due to the use of non-Ford parts could impact warranty coverage.
- What would be the alternative to using Original Ford Parts?
Aftermarket parts are the most common type of general replacement parts available. These are not OEM parts and are therefore not recommended. It is also best to avoid the use of salvage parts which are reconditioned or recycled parts taken from other damaged vehicles. Be aware that counterfeit parts made to look like viable parts should never be used either. Ford Certified Collision Network repair centers will prioritize the use of Ford original equipment parts.
- What's the difference between aftermarket parts and genuine Ford replacement parts?
Some aftermarket parts may be labeled as “certified” but be aware, this does not mean that they are certified by Ford and of the same quality. Only parts distributed by Ford dealers are true Ford replacement parts — Original Ford Parts that have been tested and approved during the vehicle development process. Aftermarket alternatives are “copies” that attempt to achieve “like” quality. The use of Original Ford Parts ensures proper fit and function which are key to performance and safety.
- What if my insurer recommends where to go for collision repair?
Some insurance carriers may encourage and give reason why you should use their approved shops, but you have the right to choose your collision repair center. Rest assured that a Ford Certified Collision Network shop is the only way to go to ensure your vehicle is repaired to the Ford standards. To repeat — you can go to a Ford Certified Collision Network, regardless of where your insurance provider recommends.
- What if my insurer says they will only cover repairs using aftermarket parts?
Some insurance policies may only cover new certified aftermarket parts, which are NOT Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. However, it’s your right to know what parts are being used and to insist on Original Ford Parts. Ford Certified Collision Centers will make that request to your insurance carrier. If the insurer refuses to use Original Ford Parts, you can consider paying the difference. It’s best to know your coverage and whether it covers OEM parts ahead of time and to adjust your policy if necessary.
- Is Ford Collision Assistance available for commercial and fleet vehicles?
Yes, in addition to providing helpful guidance for personal vehicles, Ford Collision Assistance is available for commercial and fleet vehicles as well.
- How do I contact Ford Collision Assistance?
Collision Assistance — 1-800-327-8281
An accident, no matter how big or small, can certainly disrupt your life. Let us help get your vehicle returned to pre-accident condition and back on the road quickly. Call and speak with a trained collision assistance agent 24/7/365 or find a Ford Collision Center near you.
- Why should I be concerned about my Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) after any repairs?
ADAS components are mounted around the vehicles. If a bumper is removed for access or a mirror is removed from the door, that system needs to be recalibrated so that the computer can reacclimate the system and learn the new position on the vehicle. All the ADAS components are programmed to their specific place on the vehicle, and the computers need to learn the “view” from the camera’s position.
- Does my ADAS really need calibration after a wheel alignment?
If your vehicle is equipped with a Lane Keeping System, the answer is YES. The camera in the windshield will need to be recalibrated for a Lane Keeping System to function correctly.
- Why do stickers and vehicle wraps affect my ADAS?
The ADAS system on Ford vehicles includes radar sensors that are mounted behind the bumpers or lamps. The sensors have been calibrated to view through the plastic component in front of the sensor and only the plastic and paint that Ford applied; adding another material will change the sensors “view” and likely cause the sensors to misread. This potentially leaves the ADAS system guessing the distances to objects, and it may not function as Ford designed the system to react; i.e., alert with audible tone to indicate an object is close to the bumper.
- Why doesn’t my vehicle always sense objects?
The radar and camera systems are programmed and calibrated to each vehicle and aid with driver function. Radar sensors are designed to sense metal objects within a set distance to the vehicle; therefore, the radars may not always see all objects that may not contain metal. Cameras still depend on lighting to see, so if you can’t see it, there’s a good chance your camera may not either.
- Does my ADAS need attention after a windshield replacement?
After a windshield replacement, the forward-facing camera needs a calibration that requires the vehicle be driven until the camera can fully configure its view and align itself for effectiveness.
- Can I replace an ADAS component with a used/aftermarket part?
Ford has only tested, vetted, and verified replacement parts directly sold from Ford/Lincoln Dealers. A sensor may have matching numbers and be made by the same supplier; however, Ford replacement sensors/cameras are preprogrammed to match the system of the vehicles they are intended for. Many suppliers manufacture components for other OEMs; when Ford uses a sensor, it is built specifically for Ford vehicle programming, which varies across many Ford vehicles. Used and aftermarket parts are not tested or verified by Ford. Used parts could be damaged internally with no visible damage and cannot by verified.
- Do you offer flexible payment options for collision repairs?
Yes. At participating locations, we offer flexible payment plans to help make unexpected repair costs more manageable. With these flexible payment options, you can get the certified repair your vehicle deserves — on terms that fit your budget. Whether you’re covering an insurance deductible or paying for repairs out of pocket, you can spread costs over time with convenient monthly payment options. That means you don’t have to delay important repairs or compromise on the quality and safety of your vehicle. When you choose a Ford Certified Collision Network (FCCN) center, your vehicle is repaired using genuine Ford Parts and Ford-certified technicians, helping restore it to its pre-accident condition while preserving your warranty and protecting its long-term value.
